Stories abound in folklore, conspiracy theories or whatever, yet the idea that it's a vast cavern of unimaginable spaces still seems to fascinate curious dreamers. The most noted, and possibly the most famous account of someone who has "visited" Hollow Earth, is Admiral Richard E. Byrd, who made the claim in 1947 during a trip to the North Pole. In one of Byrd's diaries, he claimed to have seen lands at the North Pole, with forests and prehistoric animals, which sat over the entrance to the subterranean world of fables. As well, he claimed to have entered the earth, and saw saucer shaped flying craft belonging to a highly advanced civilization. Admiral Byrd's peers and of course others in the scientific community began to see the admiral as some what of a "strange man". He never (as far as we know) changed his story later in life. Regardless, scientists still today continue to explore the North and South Poles, and as far as I know, no one has discovered what Byrd claimed was fact.
